Apple Pie Recipe

 Classic recipe for Apple pie

Ingredients:

For the crust:

2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon salt

1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces

6-8 tablespoons ice water

For the filling:

6 cups apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced (use a mix of sweet and tart apples such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Braeburn)

¾ cup granulated sugar

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 tablespoon unsalted butter, cut into small pieces

For topping:

1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

1 tablespoon granulated sugar (for sprinkling)

Instructions:

For the crust:

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the cold butter pieces and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Gradually add the ice water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing gently with a fork until the dough starts to come together.

Divide the dough into two equal portions and shape each portion into a flat disk. Wrap each disk in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

For the filling:

Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).

In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss the mixture gently until the apples are evenly coated.

Roll out one of the chilled dough disks on a lightly floured surface to fit a 9-inch pie dish. Place the rolled-out dough in the pie dish and trim any excess around the edges.

Pour the apple filling into the prepared pie crust. Dot the top with small pieces of butter.

Roll out the second chilled dough disk and place it over the apple filling. Trim any excess dough and crimp the edges to seal the pie.

Cut a few slits on the top crust to allow steam to escape during baking.

Brush the top crust with beaten egg wash and sprinkle with granulated sugar.

Place the pie on a baking sheet to catch any drips and bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.

Once baked, remove the pie from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack for at least 2 hours before slicing.

Enjoy the delicious homemade apple pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. The combination of sweet, cinnamon-spiced apples and flaky crust is sure to be a crowd-pleaser!
