Puff Puffs Recipe

Puff Puffs, also known as African-style deep-fried dough balls, are a popular snack or dessert in many African countries. They are soft, fluffy, and sweet, making them a delightful treat. Here's a recipe to make Puff Puffs:

Ingredients:

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon instant yeast

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg (optional, for flavor)

1 cup lukewarm water

Oil for deep-frying

Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions:

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, instant yeast, salt, and nutmeg (if using). Mix well to combine the dry ingredients.

Gradually add the lukewarm water to the dry ingredients and stir until you achieve a smooth and sticky batter. The consistency should be similar to that of pancake batter.

Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let the batter rest in a warm place for about 1 to 2 hours. This allows the batter to rise and become fluffy.

After the resting period, heat oil for deep-frying in a deep pot or frying pan over medium heat. The oil should be approximately 2-3 inches deep.

Once the oil is hot, use a spoon or your hand to scoop small portions of the batter (about the size of a ping pong ball) and carefully drop them into the hot oil. You can wet your hands with water to prevent the batter from sticking.

Fry the dough balls until they turn golden brown on all sides, flipping them occasionally for even frying. This may take around 3-4 minutes per batch.

Remove the fried puff puffs with a slotted spoon and drain them on a paper towel to remove excess oil.

Repeat the process with the remaining batter, frying the puff puffs in batches.

Optional: Dust the puff puffs with powdered sugar while they are still warm for a touch of sweetness and extra flavor.

Serve the Puff Puffs warm as a snack or dessert. They can be enjoyed on their own or served with a dipping sauce of your choice, such as chocolate sauce or caramel sauce.

Puff Puffs are best enjoyed when freshly made and still warm. They are a delightful treat that can be enjoyed on various occasions or as a tasty snack. Experiment with different flavors by adding cinnamon or vanilla extract to the batter for added aroma and taste. Enjoy the fluffy and sweet goodness of Puff Puffs!
